Perfume Review: Versus by Versace for Women

Versus by Versace for women was created in 2010, when the whole Versus lineĀ  – which includes clothing and accessories and targets young people – was revamped, after its launch in 1989. The official notes in the Versace website are: lemon, kumquat, star apple (a star-shaped fruit from the Caribbean), orange blossom, jasmine Stephanotis, hundred leaved rose, patchouli, ambrette seeds and musk.

The opening of this Versace perfume is fresh and fruity, with a soft line of aromatic citrus notes with orange and lemon on a base of water. The middle phase won’t change much, but the citrus are drier, reminding of Allure Homme Sport by Chanel or 1 Million Paco Rabanne. After about one hour, one if the fruity notes starts to evolve towards redcurrant and blueberry, and becoming more floral in the space of few minutes, close to a velvety rose. After two hours, the citrus layer is cleaner and soapy, supported by jasmine and soft notes of sugar. After four hours roses are more prominent, and show their typical natural spicy notes. In the final stage, roses are still dominant, accompanied by a mix of musk with spicy vegetal notes, which make the fragrance warmer.

Although Versus doesn’t follow the typical minimalistic Mediterranean style of other Versace perfumes (like Versense or Versace Pour Homme), it still keeps a clean and unsophisticated structure. It will be especially suitable for a daily use, both in the spring and summer. Also in the office, the aroma will give a classic and feminine image. As it is more oriented towards a personal use, rather than a social one, the fragrance won’t be at ease in night scenarios, nor romantic dates, where floral notes are structured for the light of day and the spices will have good potential, but won’t be deep enough. Ideally for women between 20 and 60.
