LCD stands for liquid crystal display, which is at present associated with various facets of screen media and electronic devices. The most popular at that is the LCD television or the LCD TV. Simply put it, this electronic utilizes a display screen that is enhanced by the innovative discovery of the light modulating properties of liquid crystals.
It was in 1888 when the scientific and industrial properties of liquid crystals were discovered. Scientists and inventors unleashed the possibility of high quality electronic devices through the use of liquid crystals. The LCD TV uses a fluorescent backlight to shine light onto millions of electrically controlled pixels that are designed to block certain wavelengths of light to produce the image seen on the screen display.
Then, in 1968, George Heilmeier, an electrical engineer and inventor, predicted the culmination of the first 32 LCD TV. True enough, the renowned electronic brand and maker, Sharp, was first to sell the 14-inch LCD TV in 1981.
Because of the development of LCD TV, this device immediately replaced the CRT units. CRT stands for cathode ray tubes. CRT TVs utilized cathode ray tubes that make the exterior of the television a bit bulky, and these tubes are enclosed in a heavy evacuated glass envelope. But, with a 26 LCD TV, the exterior is made flat because liquid crystals are merely minerals made into light substances. LCD TVs have thinner peripheral, lighter weight, high-quality television resolution, compact internal structure, wide range of screen sizes, are portable, and cost and the screen sizes are in a wider range than the CRT units, thus becomes appealing to television viewers.
It was in 2008 when the selling market of LCD TV showed inflation. It surpassed the selling of CRT TVs. However, the use of LCD was not just limited to televisions. During the 21st century, high-definition display screens became the mainstream. Electronic manufacturers produced LCD monitors, computers, watches and clocks, aircraft cockpit displays, and gaming consoles.
And, although at present, there have been innovative development of a much enhanced definition display—the LED TV, the LCD-based electronics and equipment market still shows significant trade because unlike the LED TV which is expensive although guarantees a high quality image resolution, the LCD TV is still the basic, inexpensive, yet provides satisfying screen displays. AS long as you feel satisfied with what you use in service, you may not shell out high amount of money and still be pleased.
