Four Ways to Market a Business Using the Internet

The internet is one of the strongest mediums for getting a message to the masses. However a lot of people have taken notice of this and it’s really hard to get your message heard since there is so much clutter on the net to cut through. There is however four effective methods to get the message of your business out there and heard by the masses. These methods include social media websites, user contests that create buzz on the internet.

The first three methods of marketing online are to utilize social media. There’s a wide range of types out there, and some are clearly better than others. The most effective forms are Facebook, Twitter and a Blog. You can create a profile on facebook, and your customers can opt in to receive your updates by clicking a “I’m a fan” button on the page known as a “like” button. You can upload pictures of new merchandise, talk about new services or advertise for sales. You can even upload coupons and additional discounts to motivate people to opt-in. Twitter works in a similar fashion, although it’s just text updates and there’s a limit of 140 characters. You can however use twitter as a way to get feedback and interact with your customers, as well as offer discounts. As a bonus some people will even get their tweets to their phone, which means your advertisements will reach them wherever they are, as long as they have their phone. Blog are the last effective form of social media. These give a level of personality to your business, and make it feel more familiar and accessible, even if you’re a big chain with several locations.

Another way to market on the internet is to create user contests. These could be something like “Create an advertisement for X product and receive a free case of X product”. By outsourcing your marketing work to consumers in exchange for a bit of inexpensive merchandise you are doing two things. The first is strengthening the consumer’s interest in your brand, while they’re creating their advertisement. The second is a form of word of mouth, odds are the customer will enter the picture on their facebook page and talk about it, especially if they win. While these are small advertisements, they will be much more effective then a billboard and they will cost a fraction of the price. By doing this, you are creating buzz, or word of mouth advertising that will be talked about all over, both on the internet and off. All of this brings attention to your company, products and services.

With a little bit of time and energy, some creativity and an internet connection you can develop a strong following for you business online. You may even be able to start an online division to sell your products on the virtual market to consumers that may not be able to directly purchase your product due to geographical restrains. The important thing, whether your choose facebook, twitter a blog or all three is to update regularly, and respond to consumers thoughts. As long as you do that, your business will grow in a healthy grass roots following.
